Four Members Appointed to the Public Law Section Executive Committee
The Public Law Section Executive Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of four new members.
Charlie Carriere is an enforcement attorney at the California Department of Business Oversight. Charlie’s work at the Department focuses on consumer protection and regulatory matters concerning mortgage originations and servicing and other consumer financial products. Charlie received his JD from the U.C. Berkeley School of Law, where he focused his studies on consumer law and complex litigation. He also interned at the East Bay Community Law Center, Equal Rights Advocates, and Public Justice. Upon graduation, Charlie joined the California Monitor Program, where he reviewed consumer complaints related to mortgage servicing and worked with bank representatives to resolve systemic servicing issues. In Spring 2013, Charlie moved to Boston to take a litigation fellowship at the Legal Services Center of Harvard Law School. As a fellow, Charlie brought affirmative cases against mortgage servicers arising under consumer protection and foreclosure laws, and supervised law students helping homeowners in pre-foreclosure mediations with their banks. In his free time, Charlie enjoys Lindy hop and walking his deer headed chihuahua, R2D2.
Katherine Cook is a Senior Associate with Meyers Nave in the firm’s Sacramento office. She serves as City Attorney for the City of Plymouth and Deputy City Attorney for the City of Rancho Cordova. Kate counsels public entity clients on issues related to the Public Records Act, the Brown Act, the Political Reform Act, land use, labor and employment issues, election law, and cannabis regulations. Ms. Cook graduated from the University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law with distinction. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego.
Leslie R. Lopez is the Deputy Director and Chief Counsel at the Department of General Services. Her 30 years of public law experience includes serving as the Deputy Secretary and General Counsel at two of the Governor’s cabinet level agencies, as a Deputy Attorney General in the Government Law Section, as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Sacramento, and in private practice in San Jose. Ms. Lopez earned her Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University.
