True Mobility Solutions

By Doug Hafford
VP of Consulting Services, Afinety Inc.

With every day that passes, our world becomes more mobile and accessible than ever before. The traditional law office, filled with books, libraries and filing cabinets is a thing of the past. While I still enjoy visiting hundreds of law firms each year, what strikes me is how non-traditional they have become. I still love seeing the wood paneling, Currier & Ives style art and a well-stocked library but now they are ornamental, giving visitors a feel for the firm much more than being useful.

With these changes has come a need for faster, easier and more robust mobility solutions. Often attorneys work outside the office and the old ways of accessing a system can be both cumbersome and time consuming as well as prone to issues that keep mobile users from being productive. Below you will find some ideas on how to solve this, as well as solutions to other challenges your firm might be facing.

Email is the primary application in almost any business and especially law firms. A variety of solutions and features have sprung up over the years to handle mobile users’ need for constant email contact – starting with the Blackberry Enterprise Server. However, things have changed significantly and now we live in a BYOD (bring your own device) world where users can select their preferred form factor in handhelds and expect them to be fully supported.
