Windows XP Retirement

On April 8, 2014, the landscape for law firm PCs will radically change. That is the date Microsoft has set for the full retirement of Windows XP. There are numerous online articles and a lot of discussion going on via social media about this event. In the 27 years I have been in the Legal IT business, this is perhaps the most significant threat we have faced, and your firm should be prepared well before this date.
On their website, Microsoft explains what this means to any firm:
To put this into more explicit terms, when the support ends, the flood begins. Without question there are spammers, robots, hackers and other types of threats just waiting for that day. Think about this; Windows XP Pro is on Service Pack 3 right now and has literally hundreds of patches, updates and fixes. Most of these are centered on security. Even now, over 11 years since its inception, these systems are being updated to secure them from outside influences.
