Editor-in-Chief of New Matter
Welcome to the winter edition of New Matter for 2020. The cover art for this issue illustrates the politically charged issues that everyone has faced this winter. Irrespective of what side of the Black Live’s Matter you may be on, the cover art with "BLACK LIVES MATTER" painted on the street in front of the Martinez court building and the lady attempting to paint over the letters may draw feelings of resentment and indignation. A primary MCLE article in this issue addresses the IP involved and is entitled "Black Lives Matter" Murals: Intellectual Property vs. Real Property Rights.
Because many live CLE programs have been cancelled this year, we are trying to offer additional MCLE credit articles. Two are included in this issue. One is the Black Lives Matter article. The other article is "TikTok USA SaleâIP and Privacy Law Under CCPA and GDRP." The TikTok article addresses IP as well as privacy rights that are related to IP and which recently were enacted into law and are hot button issues, not only for TikTok, but also for Google and Facebook. We know you have many online choices for MCLE from different organizations this year because of quarantine, and we hope you will choose and enjoy our articles. We invite you to go to the California Lawyer’s Association website at cla.inreachce.com to obtain MCLE for reading articles you like by taking a short quiz of 20 true/false questions.
