New Matter WINTER 2018, Volume 43, Number 4

Letter from the Editor-in-Chief

Thomas A. Ward

ARRIS Group, Inc.

Welcome to the winter edition of New Matter for 2018. California may seem a bit forlorn during the holiday season, being a blue state during national elections with a red president and everything seeming to go against the state. But take heart, California is one of a few states that have legalized marijuana, so we can still enjoy the approaching holiday season with joy and cheer.

The cover art also brings attention to the feature article entitled, "California Cannabis Trademarks Update with Ethics Considerations." Although cannabis has been legalized in California, it is still not legal under Federal law.1,2 The article covers changes to California’s trademark laws related to cannabis and the ethical rules governing representing clients on cannabis related matters. The article offers 1 hour of MCLE credit in ethics. For those who need additional credits to complete their MCLE requirements by the end of January, we invite you to go to CALawyers.org/Self-Study to obtain the MCLE hours from this article as well as other stored from past New Matter issues.
