Welcome to the summer edition of New Matter for 2014. Yes, the light bulb on the cover has finally been replaced. The scarecrow on the cover is designed to feature our Copyright Interest Group. We delved back a few years into the past to 1908 to insure that the copyrighted art we publish is in the public domain. Upcoming New Matter issues will have different feature artwork to feature our other interest groups to reflect the diversity of the IP Section interests.
For those who may not recognize the name L. Frank Baum, I give you the following clues to help you identify him. First, there are several famous children’s books that he authored. Second, he had two file cabinets to store his works, one labeled with letters "A-N" and the other with letters "O-Z." Since this is a California Bar publication, you may be thinking wasn’t Mr. Baum from Kansas, and shouldn’t we feature art from California. However, one of his children’s books was made into a movie that was produced and filmed in California starring Judy Garland, so we feel the art is appropriate.
