‘Hey all you COOL cats and kittens.’ If you were one of the quarantined Netflix series Tiger King viewers, you will recognize this line by Joe Exotic (aka Joe Schriebvogel, aka Joe Moldonado-Passage) a person who bred and exhibited big cats. Welcome to the fall edition of New Matter for 2020. The cover art for this issue shows Joe Exotic’s mark which was found to infringe the BIG CAT RESCUE mark of Carole Baskin, the founder of a big cat sanctuary. I personally enjoyed and was one of the Netflix series binge watchers! I believed that the many and varied legal issues presented in the docuseries would be of interest to all IP lawyers, and therefore did some background research and included an article in this issue about Tiger King. I hope all you cool cats and kittens agree!
Because many live CLE programs have been cancelled this year, we hope you take advantage of the MCLE credits available from New Matter articles. For this edition, the MCLE article is my Tiger King article. The article will be a fun read, particularly if you have seen the Netflix series, or if you have an inclination to bingewatch the Tiger King series while you are quarantined. We know you will have many online choices for MCLE from organizations this year because of quarantine, and we hope you will choose and enjoy our articles. We invite you to go to the California Lawyer’s Association website at cla.inreachce.com to obtain MCLE for articles you like by taking a short quiz of 20 true/false questions.
