Letter from the Chair

DEBORAH GREAVES
Ezra Brutzkus Gubner, LLP

DEAR SECTION MEMBERS:

It is with great honor and respect for my fellow practitioners that I assume the position of Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section. As I write this inaugural letter, we are actively preparing for our 40th Annual IP Institute, the Section’s flagship program covering all things IP. Although the Institute will be behind us by the time this letter is published, we will continue to be immersed in preparing programs for 2016 and in to 2017.

Many Section members may not be aware that the primary mission of the Section is to provide continuing education and resources to our members. Publishing New Matter is one way we accomplish our goal. I highly recommend the articles as both illuminating on the subjects and with cross-relevance. For example, the article on New Media Rights by Teri Karobonik in this issue expounds on issues with Open Source Software, which become central to the plot detailed by James Roberts in his Licensing column. While we cannot always guarantee that New Matter will supply the background to each and every discussion in the same issue, we do strive for excellence. The Executive Committee of the Section takes its mission seriously and also devotes a great amount of thought and time into developing interesting programs with exceptional speakers. Although there may be competing providers ofcontinuing education in the intellectual property realm, I continue to be amazed at the programming created by the Section and can state, without hesitation, that the subject matter and presentation is unsurpassed.
