The Excellence in Family Law Award The Honorable Judge Thomas Anderle
Vanessa Kirker-Wright*
On June 26, 2014 the Family Law Executive Committee joined the Santa Barbara legal community to honor Judge Thomas P. Anderle at a reception held at the local University Club. FLEXCOM Chair, Andrew Cain, traveled from the Bay Area to present the "Excellence in Family Law" award to Judge Anderle. The event was attended by over 100 revelers, including many family law practitioners, and also a large number of "regular" civil lawyers, family, friends, and well-wishers. The event was ably hosted by the Santa Barbara County Bar Foundation â a philanthropic organization organized to promote the courts and equal access to justice in Santa Barbara County.
In his presentation, Andrew noted Judge Anderle’s extraordinary work ethic, his never-failing civility to all who enter his courtroom, and his true and sincere interest in everyone who falls into his orbit. Judge Anderle accepted the award with his usual humility. He made certain to first thank June Anderle – his "bride" of 49 years – for her unstinting loyalty and love. Then, he introduced each of his courtroom staff, and thanked them for their support.
There were a number of dignitaries in attendance, most of the Santa Barbara Superior Court bench, Justice Steven Z. Perren of the 2nd District Court of Appeal and Scott Campbell, the President of the Santa Barbara Bar Association among others. In addition to the "Excellence in Family Law" award, Judge Anderle was presented with recognition of his accomplishments from Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and Assembly member Das Williams, and from United States Representative Lois Capps. In short, the City, County, State and Country all celebrated FLEXCOM’s recognition of Judge Anderle’s accomplishments.
