MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR
Naghmeh Bashar, Executive Editor
As my third and final year as a voting member on FLEXCOM comes to an end, I was sad that my second term as your Executive Editor was also ending. This Issue would normally be my last, but I was delighted when our incoming Chair of FLEXCOM, Raymond Goldstein, offered me an advisor position on FLEXCOM and to continue as your Executive Editor for a third year. I am grateful for Raymond’s confidence in me as your Editor and trusting me with our Family Law News publication.
This year, our current Chair of FLEXCOM, Andrew Cain, worked tirelessly and made the year a smooth and successful one for FLEXCOM. He has been such a tremendous help to me personally, and he is always available to assist any member â thank you, Andrew. This year too, our Education committee brought you amazing webinars, organized the State Bar convention’s educational seminars, and had a sold out program in all locations for The Essentials in Family Law Trial. Our Affirmative Legislation committee worked consistently with the legislatures in Sacramento to introduce and push through several bills to better the practice of Family Law for all of us â as of August 16, 2014, the Governor signed AB414 into law, which re-enacts Family Code section 4326 as emergency legislation – effective immediately. In July 2014, the Governor signed AB 2586 (the anti-Bobitt bill) into law. With these two bills being signed into law, the Affirmative Legislation team is two for two this year! Great work team! The entire FLEXCOM members and advisors with our Regional Standing Committees have been diligently working on bills introduced by our Senators and Assemblymen to review, analyze, revise, defend or oppose bills for continued positive progress in Family Law. You can expect the same work ethic from our continuing and incoming members of FLEXCOM.
As FLEXCOM continues its efforts to honor those who have served determinedly in the practice and furthering Family Law, in this Issue, we honor our recipient for the 2014 Excellence in Family Law award, The Honorable Judge Thomas Anderle. Read this article written by FLEXCOM’s Legislation Chair, Vanessa Kirker Wright and be inspired.
