Welcome to the New Business Law Section Term!
As we enter autumn, the California Lawyers Association closes out the 2020-2021 term and with it, the Business Law Section welcomes its new leadership slate!
Our incoming class of Executive Committee members and Standing Committee leadership chairs have the energy and experience to continue building the business law community. BLS recently increased its executive committee class from five to eight because of the breadth and depth of activity available. BLS invests in creating better engagement, from events to operations and systems, so our list of initiatives keeps growing! Fortunately, our members’ consistent interest in improvement also keeps us agile. For example, this was the year to hold virtual meetings but we also experimented by offering opportunities to interact at varying levels of commitment: through viewing parties where no video presence was expected, to office hours for members who wanted to meet informally on shorter matters, to hosting an online symposium. We also implemented a shared calendar, managed all our documents through an online system and are working on developing our online presence. As for initiatives, members introduced sustainability inquiries, produced eBulletins with the highest CLA-wide clickrate, penned many thoughtful analytical legislative proposals and comments, pushed through a new CLA section and possibly may have established a new area of legal specialization, in addition to creating award winning video content to assist businesses faced with challenging issues.
