Executive Committee: Message from the Chair

Uzzi O. Raanan

Write As if Your Career Depended on It.

In academia, an expression often uttered is "publish or perish." In the practice of law, an equivalent aphorism might be, "publish to build your career." A common way for attorneys to establish positive professional reputations is by sharing experiences and novel ideas through the written word. In addition to educating others, legal writers often find that their own understanding of the law and practice improves during the process of researching for and reducing to writing topics they previously thought they knew well. In other words, an attorney wishing to take his/her legal practice to the next level should write—often!

The Business Law Section (BLS) offers a number of writing opportunities for its members. These include short eBulletins that summarize and comment on recently-published cases and enacted legislation. For attorneys with an interest in expounding on discreet legal topics, the Business Law News (BLN) publishes articles ranging in length from about 2500 to 3500 words (approximately ten double-spaced pages). For those who prefer to edit, the BLN Editorial Board is a wonderful place to help shape substantive articles and stay informed about recent legal developments.
