LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
Written by Demetria L. Graves Chair
Wow! I can’t believe we are approaching the end of our 2023 FLEXCOM year! Before I pass the baton to the incoming board members and advisors I am honored to have the opportunity to say hello AND goodbye to our FLEXCOM community.
When my term began in January of 2023, I really didn’t know what to expect. For the previous three years, we handled our FLEXCOM business on Zoom and had very limited interaction with each other and the FLEXCOM community. Because of our limited interactions in the past, I knew it was imperative to find a way to bring our board together in person post COVID and find a way for us to continue to focus on the important duties of FLEXCOM.
Let me tell you, this board DID NOT DISAPPOINT. This year we continued our hard work reviewing important family legislation and providing our input on matters that impacted family law. We planned our first in person live education programming, "Anatomy of a Trial," in over three years, FLEXCOM created a mentorship committee to bridge the gap between law school and private practice and continued to explore the lack of diversity in our profession. FLEXCOM continues to provide monthly updates regarding recent cases that impact family law and updates in the family law community with our monthly Family Law News Monthly. FLEXCOM also made a big return on social media, in our attempts to reach our members on a more consistent basis.
