STRENGTH IN PARTNERSHIP – HUMAN RESOURCES (HR) AND LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT PRACTITIONERS
September 2023
By Maribel Hernandez
The Labor and Employment Law Section is now a Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) Provider and offers affiliate membership to HR professionals.
HR professionals and attorneys play a significant role in maximizing the employee experience and helping businesses mitigate legal risks. Although intertwined, HR professionals and attorneys have distinct skills, each focusing on their expertise to provide the greatest value to the client.
Given their similarities and differences, the best of both worlds can be achieved through a partnership between HR professionals and labor and employment law practitioners. This is why California Lawyers Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section will begin offering practical legal training geared toward HR and in-house counsel (“Legal Training for Employment Practitioners”). For the first time, program attendees will be eligible to receive both SHRM and MCLE credits.
This new program will offer regular training on the key and unique challenges faced by HR and in-house attorneys in the labor and employment context. Organized and curated by the Executive Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section, the new training programs will be presented by dynamic attorney speakers with practical experience and diverse perspectives. Together, HR and attorney attendees will discuss labor and employment topics and their pragmatic application as in-house practitioners.
The program will launch in late September 2023 and begin with three trainings: (1) “The Legal Implications and Best Practices in Separating the Employee with Dignity and Respect,” followed by (2) “Leaves and Accommodation Compliance” and (3) the “Practical Application of Wage & Hour Laws in the Workplace.”
