Joint Message from CEO and President Regarding the LA Fires
January 10, 2025
Dear CLA Members, Colleague and Friends,
On behalf of California Lawyers Association, we share our deepest concern with you, your families and friends, and everyone who has been impacted by the catastrophic fires in Los Angeles. We offer our condolences for the lives lost and to the communities experiencing this devastation.
Over the past few days, we have heard from many of our leaders and members who have shared their concerns and offered support for the wildfire victims. CLA stands in solidarity with the citizens of Los Angeles County. Please know you are not alone.
We are thankful for the life-saving work by the hundreds of firefighters, first responders, and all of the people standing in harm’s way to help Southern California during this perilous time.
CLA understands that underinsurance is one of the biggest concerns for those experiencing a wildfire loss. One important consumer focused non-profit is United Policyholders, based in San Francisco. United Policyholders provides resources to consumers regarding insurance and how to navigate the claims process, especially following a disaster. Here is a link to its website.
The State Bar of California also provides resources for disaster help, here.
As you may be aware, President Biden has declared a major disaster for the area. This declaration makes available individual programs for people and businesses affected by the fires, including temporary accommodation and financial assistance for destroyed property. Federal help is available here.
Additionally, CLA encourages our members who wish to help the victims, to donate to an organization of your choice.
It is an honor to be part of a 45,000-person organization which cares so deeply, not only about its members, but for all of those touched by this tragedy. We may all have in common our work in the legal field, but most importantly, we stand together for humankind.
Sincerely,
Chris Nguyen
