International Law and Immigration
Message from the ILS Chair
December 22, 2021
It is my honor to serve as the Chair of the International Law and Immigration Section of CLA (ILS). We started 2021 being hopeful that we would see the end of the pandemic but with the Omicron variant rising across the country, it feels like March 2020 all over again. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic because the pandemic has forced us to evolve faster than we had to and with technological advances, we are able to connect even though we are not able to meet in person.
Since I became the ILS Chair, we have organized many exciting programs with our foreign bar friends and we are continuously looking to produce programs that our members would find useful. We recently produced successful programs with the Law Society of Ireland and with the Association of Business Lawyers in Mexico. Currently, we are working on a Beginner’s Guide Series on Global Commercial Leasing highlighting a different country each month and so far we have scheduled speakers from Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, and Spain.
This is also the time of the year when you are reminded to renew your CLA membership for 2022. Please join the International Law and Immigration Section when renewing your CLA membership for 2022. ILS is looking forward to a new year of exciting programming in collaboration with our foreign bar partners and in-person gatherings with fellow members throughout the state. We expect the 2022 CLA Annual Meeting in San Diego to include several foreign delegations and opportunities for our members to engage with them. Join the International Law and Immigration Section of CLA to connect with international practitioners across California and around the world.
In the meantime, I wish you and your loved ones happiness and prosperity this holiday season and in the new year.
