Member Spotlight: Ross Epstein

Ross A. Epstein is a partner and the Chair of the Intellectual Property Group at CKR Law LLP. Mr. Epstein provides legal counsel to a wide variety of clients including U.S., European and Asian multinational corporations; universities and other research institutions; small businesses and start-up companies; and sole inventors and entrepreneurs in high tech, life sciences as well as other industries. Mr. Epstein has a unique affinity for the entrepreneurial client due to his hands-on experience in business as the founder, President, and CEO of BCH Communications. Mr. Epstein developed BCH Communications into a multi-million dollar telecommunications/internet business and also filled the in-house counsel role. This experience combined with his prior business litigation practice makes him uniquely qualified to advice and counsel growing companies in patent, trademark, and business matters.

Ross is an avid skier who makes multiple trips to Mammoth Mountain each season. He was also formerly on a New Jersey State Championship tennis team! When asked about the most important skill that an IP attorney should have, Ross responded: “I believe that taking a “business first” approach to client matters is the key skill every IP attorney should have. While technical capability is important, being able to translate the technical aspects of IP and incorporate them into a client’s business strategy is where the most value is added as an attorney. I feel I am most effective when my clients provide me with a complete picture of their business situation so what I do is in line with their business objectives.”
