Letter from the Chair

Dear IP Section Member,

It’s hard to believe that it’s the middle of April!

I hope that you’re enjoying the new issue of New Matter. After an easy hike in February (Moss Beach), and a grueling one last month (Ohlone Wilderness), we will be doing a wellness hike and discussion on May 18, 2024, at and along the beautiful Dipsea Trail in Marin County. One hour of wellness credit will be available for participants. For more information, learn more and sign up!

An invitation has been extended for our first book club discussion, on April 23, 2024, 8-9pm pacific, when we will discuss The Coming Wave: Technology, Power, and the Twenty-first’s Century Greatest Dilemma (Suleyman, Bhaskar). 

As intimated above, we have a busy spring, with two (2) remaining conferences:

• The Copyright Office Comes to the California, in person and live-streamed from Oracle Conference Center in Redwood Shores, CA, May 16, 2024.
• The Patent Office Comes to California, in-person and live-streamed from the USPTO Silicon Valley Regional Office, San Jose, CA, June 4, 2024.

Plus, our annual DC Delegation heads to the nation’s capital later this month, with the resulting report to be published in the Fall issue of New Matter.

Our next Annual IP Institute is planned for March 2025. Traditionally, we have held our institute in November, but we are repositioning to a spring annual conference for a number of reasons. If you’re beginning to think about IP law conferences to attend and/or sponsor in 2025, please “save the date” for our next Annual IP Institute.
