Webinar: Update on Crypto Currency and NFT Reporting

Since the introduction of Bitcoin to date, the area of digital assets and cryptocurrency has moved at speed of innovation.  The IRS has not kept up with guidance, which leaves professional in the dark as to how these assets are reported for income tax purposes.  It is imperative that tax advisors understand the applicable tax rules, reporting requirements, and the potential issues in how digital assets are treated.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn the difference between digital assets.  Official guidance from IRS will be reviewed and applied to real life examples.  In addition, areas of unknown and where additional guidance are necessary will be discussed.  Lastly, issues with foreign reporting will be introduced.

Ani Galyan is an attorney admitted to practice in California and is a Certified Tax Specialist.  In addition, Ani is a certified public accountant admitted to practice in California.  She also holds a Masters in Tax Law (LL.M).  She focuses her practice in the area of tax law for federal, state and local tax compliance, tax disputes, and tax crimes.  Ani has a knack for recognizing emerging industries and becoming a well-informed tax advisor to her clients within the specialty area.  She has been in the forefront of representing cannabis operators in the state of California in all aspects of federal, state, and local tax compliance matters.  In addition, she has advised clients on cryptocurrency reporting obligations and navigating the complex reporting requirements for cryptocurrency investors.  She regularly speaks, writes, and provides continuing education to other professionals relating to the taxation of cannabis and crypto-currency activities.

Typical clients include U.S. taxpayers’ disputes with the IRS and state taxing authorities.  Ani has represented taxpayers in tax civil examinations with indication of fraud and criminal exposure bringing the cases to a closure without fraud penalties or Criminal Investigation referral.  In addition, she has guided individuals and businesses through voluntary disclosure (known as “tax amnesty”) for both offshore and domestic assets and income.  

Ani has served on the Board of Directors for California CPA Society-Los Angeles Chapter, and co-chair of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood CalCPA Discussion Group.She is a founding member of Armenian American CPA Society. Ani is a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association and other organizations relating to the field of taxation and banking.  

Ani was recognized as Southern California Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2016 through 2020.She was a CalCPA Women to Watch Nominee finalist in 2015 and 2017.

Prior to starting Galyan Law, Ani gained expertise in the area of international taxation with a boutique tax firm in Los Angeles.  She has experience as a Graduate Student Assistant with the State Board of Equalization’s Appeals Division where she drafted Decision and Recommendation on sales tax matters.

Ani obtained a B.S. degree in 2005 from USC in Accounting, a JD, Cum Laude, from Loyola Law School in 2012 and an LLM with Highest Distinction from Loyola Law School in 2012.
