A discussion of the ethical obligations and considerations for patent practitioners in their use and application of AI tools and technologies. Attendees will learn about obligations under the Rules of Professional Conduct. Panelists will discuss issues to be aware of in the implementation of new AI technologies.

Lily Li is the founder and president of Metaverse Law. She advises clients on data privacy and AI and cybersecurity risk management. She is a fellow in information privacy through the International Association of Privacy Professionals, is a GIAC certified computer forensic analyst, and has been a featured speaker at the Wall Street Journal Cybersecurity Forum and PrivSec Global. In her free time, she loves spending time in nature with her two daughters and reading science fiction.
John M. Rogitz is currently the Managing Attorney at Rogitz & Associates. He is a registered patent attorney specializing in patent preparation and prosecution in a range of technologies including artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, extended reality, video games, Internet of things (IoT), and medical devices.
In addition, John serves on the Executive Committee of the IP Section of the California Lawyers Association, and is an adjunct professor at Trinity Law School. He also writes for IP Watchdog, America’s leading patent law publication, and has also been published by IP Today, IP Magazine, and others. Prior to practicing law, John worked in industry as a web developer.
Nicholas You is an Associate Director with Protiviti Legal Consulting. As an emerging legal risk consultant, Nicholas is well-established in the areas of data privacy, AI governance, records retention, and sustainability. Nicholas’ work focuses on assisting corporations build trust and resilience in the digital age and effectively manage and govern their data assets and emerging technologies. Nicholas become a go-to expert for interpreting complex legal landscapes and translating multifaceted concepts into tailored business practices that strategically optimize transparency and accountability.
