Webinar: Protecting Your Clients, Protecting Your License: Ethical Dilemmas in Trademark Law

Emil Ali is a Partner at McCabe & Ali, LLP representing patent and trademark practitioners in ethics and misconduct investigations and litigation initiated by the USPTO Office of Enrollment and Discipline (OED). Previously, Emil spent time within OED, which affords him an experience of both perspectives. Emil’s background includes the ability to skillfully represent patent attorneys and agents, as well as trademark attorneys, in OED investigations and litigation proceedings. Emil also represents lawyers and law firms in all manners of comporting their conduct to the rules of professional conduct, including understanding and mitigating conflicts of interest, and dealing with difficult clients. Emil is also routinely retained as an expert in matters related to disqualification, conflicts, privilege, and confidentiality. 
 
 Emil’s practice also includes assisting registered investment advisors and broker dealers in complying with SEC, State, and FINRA obligations. 
 
 Emil is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at Lewis and Clark Law School where he helps law students understand the nuances of the profession.

Dana Brody-Brown is an experienced intellectual property and brand management attorney with a special focus in the areas of trademark counseling and prosecution, including trademark audits, portfolio analysis and strategic counseling, selection and searching of trademarks, domestic and worldwide registration and enforcement, domain name issues, and licensing.

Dana handles trademark disputes, including domain name issues and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent & Trademark Office. She has counseled a wide array of clients ranging from start-ups to well-known and established companies in varied industries including consumer electronics, semiconductors, software, medical devices, banking, fashion, and consumer products. She also has experience and a particular interest in the areas of advertising and marketing law and counsels clients regarding trademark and consumer issues raised by advertising and marketing and how those issues can be addressed.
