Webinar: Partnering With a Litigator When Issues Relating to an Existing Lease Arise

Often times a transactional commercial real estate client will reach out to the attorney who helped draft their lease with an issue that has arisen from the lease and the question is when and how should that attorney seek assistance from a litigator. This program will provide hypothetical situations from a transactional attorney’s perspective and then discuss those situations with transactional and litigation practitioner to help the transactional attorney better navigate these difficult situations.

J.J. Sherman, Esq. is an experienced attorney with a diverse practice that covers commercial real estate, data privacy, and general commercial law matters. She began her legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City and later joined Latham & Watkins LLP in Los Angeles before opening her own practice, Law Offices of J.J. Sherman, P.C.  in 2009. J.J. works with clients in a wide range of industries including the retail, apparel, fashion, finance, technology, real estate, and entertainment industries. She has broad experience in commercial real estate transactions, including negotiating leases, lease workouts, purchases, sales, financing, joint ventures and related legal issues. J.J. obtained her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from St. John’s University School of Law, where she was a member of St. John’s Law Review. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College, summa cum laude with a B.A. in History and a B.A. in Theater. J.J. is admitted to practice law in California and New York.   She currently serves as the chair of the California Lawyers Association sub-committee on commercial leasing.

Jenifer Swanson is Senior Counsel at California Business Law Group, PC, where she focuses on commercial real estate leasing and transactions. She has worked with landlords and tenants across retail, office, and industrial markets.   Currently, Jenifer served on the California Lawyers Association’s Real Property Law Executive Committee. She is also a member of CREW. Jenifer attended University of California, Irvine school of Law and prior to that obtained her business degree from San Diego State University.  She worked as a commercial asset manager prior to law school.  She has her California Broker’s License and is licensed to practice law in California. 

Eric Hawes was born in Westminster, California in 1960 and raised in the Southern California Area. He has focused his practice in the area of real estate, construction and commercial litigation and transactions. Mr. Hawes represents developers, investors, design professionals, general and sub-contractors, owner-occupiers, landlords and other users of real estate in matters involving sales, purchases, options, leases, construction and development, easements, adverse and prescriptive use, boundary and other title disputes, subsidence, lateral support, entitlements, water rights, eminent domain and inverse condemnation of commercial, office, industrial, retail, agricultural, residential and multifamily properties. Eric Hawes is a featured speaker of the Federal Reserve Bank and a member and featured speaker of the Risk Management Association.  He sat on the Civil Litigation Panel for the California Continuing Education of the Bar and the Government Affairs Committee of the Building Industry Association, and he is a member of the Providence Cedars-Sinai Real Estate Committee.
