This webinar will cover the technical aspects of in-house AI programs and the evaluation of risks in AI-related initiatives. Participants will gain an understanding of these technical aspects, equipping them with the knowledge needed to perform their roles as lawyers in drafting contracts, negotiating agreements, and establishing requirements for AI-related projects. The session will include an overview of current AI legislation, with an emphasis on developments in California. Additionally, we will explore how tech companies approach AI governance and organize their AI teams. This session will delve into the crucial aspects of risk evaluation associated with AI and automation within governance and policy frameworks.

Michelle Neitz is a law professor since 2006 and currently holds a faculty position at the University of San Francisco. Her journey into blockchain research began in 2017, propelling her into a pivotal role as a member of the Blockchain Working Group, a legislative advisory panel for the state of California. Through this experience, she gained comprehensive insights into the applications of emerging technology for social good and effectively [demonstrated to government officials how law and regulation can be harnessed to benefit society. At the University of San Francisco, Professor Neitz contributes to a robust array of projects focusing on AI and blockchain, including specialized training programs for government officials. This dynamic environment aligns with her passion for integrating legal perspectives with technological advancements. Further underscoring her commitment to global development, she actively participates in the United Nations discussion group on AI and development for Latin America and the Caribbean. With her deep expertise in law, technology, and policy, Professor Neitz continues to be a prominent voice in shaping the intersection of emerging technology and regulatory frameworks.

Vasudha Hedge began her career as a systems engineer, laying the technical foundation that would support her transition into a dynamic consulting role at a Big Four firm. With extensive experience advising tech companies on cybersecurity and privacy, she has become a trusted expert in navigating complex regulatory landscapes. For the past five years, she has thrived as a Privacy Program Manager and AI Program Manager, where she has skillfully led initiatives to ensure compliance with California and global privacy and AI standards. Through her strategic vision and dedicated leadership, Vasudha has built an extraordinary career, helping organizations effectively implement comprehensive privacy and AI governance frameworks. Her expertise continues to position her as a key player in the intersection of technology, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
