A decedent’s estate in administration presents the executor and his or her advisors with a multitude of tax options and elections, many of which are overlooked and cost families needless taxes. Brian Conboy and David Oh, Trust Counsel for Fiduciary Trust International, will explore estate and income tax elections in postmortem administration. Specific attention will be given to fiscal year and IRC §645 elections, uses of alternate valuation, benefits of filing for extensions, deferrals of payment of estate tax, and analysis of deductions for income versus estate tax purposes.

Speakers
Brian D. Conboy, Director of Estate Administration, is responsible for managing and directing all aspects of estate administration and leading a team of experienced estate professionals at Fiduciary Trust International. Brian joined the firm in July 2016 as an assistant vice president and estate settlement officer, and was most recently managing director and senior estate settlement officer responsible for the administration of complex trusts and estates. Prior to joining Fiduciary Trust International, he was an associate attorney at the law firm of Eisenberg, Margolis & Maldonado, PLLC, in Garden City, New York, where his primary practice areas were estate administration and estate planning. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in economics and Spanish, from Bucknell University and his Juris Doctor degree from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. Brian is admitted to the New York State Bar. He is a member of the Nassau County Estate Planning Council and the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates Section, serving on the Trust and Estate Administration and Estate Taxation Committees.
David Oh, Managing Director, Trust Counsel, is a senior trusts and estates advisor with broad experience in estate planning and trust administration. He advises clients on matters including tax planning, tax compliance, wealth transfer techniques, and charitable strategies. Most recently, David was a Director of Tax, Trust, and Estate with Charles Schwab & Co., where he provided tax, estate, and wealth planning solutions to founders, executives, private equity partners, and family offices. Prior to that, he was a member of the tax group at PwC LLP where he consulted on preserving multigenerational family wealth. He earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in taxation at Boston University School of Law, Juris Doctor from University of the Pacific, and Bachelor of Arts in legal studies from University of California at Berkeley. He is a Certified Specialist in both Taxation Law as well as in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by the State Bar of California. David sits on the boards of Continuing Education of the Bar and the Estate and Gift Tax committee of the California Lawyer’s Association.
