Webinar: Ethical Concerns for Trust and Estate Practitioners

Attend this presentation to connect with an estate planner and trust administrator, a Research Attorney at the Superior Court, and a malpractice attorney who are members of the California Lawyers Association Trusts and Estates Executive Committee or the California Lawyers Association Ethics Executive Committee. Ethical issues are tricky in that, while they are often obvious, other times they may be difficult to spot.   By understanding the pitfalls, we can better see them and prevent a catastrophe that could impact our ability to represent clients without issue or jeopardize our license to practice law.

Ryka Farotte is a research attorney at the Los Angeles County Superior Court working in the Court’s Probate Department.  He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the California Lawyer Association’s Trusts and Estates Section where he serves as Chair of the Incapacity Subcommittee.

Scott Garner is a partner at Umberg Zipser LLP in Irvine, California. He practices in the area of complex business litigation, with a focus on lawyer liability matters and legal ethics counseling, including in the area of estate planning. He currently is the co-chair of the Orange County Bar Association Professionalism and Ethics Committee, a current and inaugural member of the California Lawyers Association Ethics Committee, and is a former chair of the California State Bar Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct. Scott was the President of the Orange County Bar Association in 2020 and is a former President of the Orange County Chapter of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He has testified as an expert on ethics and standard of care. He speaks and writes frequently on legal ethics issues.

Kristin Yokomoto is a partner at Baker Hostetler in Costa Mesa, California.  She is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law with the California Bar Association of Legal Specialization. Kristin devotes her practice to helping families, individuals and business owners with their estate planning, business succession planning, trust administration need. She is a member of Executive Committee of the California Lawyer Association’s Trusts and Estates Section and former Chair of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Orange County (“STEP Orange County”). Kristin also helps the California State Bar by grading bar exams for the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Legal Specialization.
