Webinar: Environmental Legislation and Regulation in California: Trends, Directions, and Developments

This session will describe recent legislative and regulatory developments at the federal and California levels including key court opinions. This update will also include an analysis and forecast of President Biden’s agenda and its implications to California businesses.
Speakers: Gary Lucks and Darrell Steinberg
Gary Lucks JD, CPEA is a principal environmental attorney and scientist at Beyond Compliance with deep expertise in environmental, health, and safety (EHS) law, legislative affairs, and sustainability strategy. He has over 30 years of experience advising Fortune 500 clients in most industry sectors. He is a licensed attorney, a scientist, and a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) who has completed or overseen close to 500 major EHS compliance audits across the country and overseas. He also specializes in environmental compliance counseling, environmental auditing, environmental management systems (EMS), permitting, and training.
He wrote environmental policy briefing papers for Governor Newsom, Senator Feinstein, Senator Steinberg, State Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, and Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan. He serves on the California Lawyers Association Environmental Law Section’s Executive Committee.
Mr. Lucks has published extensively on environmental law, legislation, and policy. He co-wrote the book California Environmental Law and Policy: A Practical Guide, and wrote the Environmental Auditing Chapter in the California Environmental Law and Land Use Treatise. He has been a regular contributor to the California Environmental Law Reporter.
Mr. Lucks has taught courses on environmental law, auditing, sustainability, climate change, and legislation for over 30 years.
Mayor Darrell Steinberg is one of Sacramento’s most accomplished public servants, having served as a City Councilman before being elected to the State Assembly and State Senate. As a state legislator, Steinberg championed economic development, education reform, building sustainable communities, and major investments in healthcare and education. Darrell was the first Sacramentan to serve as President of the State Senate in more than 125 years and was elected the 57th mayor of Sacramento in 2016.
