The purpose of this webinar is to inform lawyers about recent privacy developments across the US and international jurisdictions. This will involve a deep dive into US-based state legislation, including recent changes, as well as international privacy considerations, particularly between the US and Japan.

Christopher Ghazarian is the General Counsel of DreamHost, a web design and cloud company in Los Angeles. His day-to-day includes operations, M&A, and international expansion, and he helps shape the company’s long-term strategy and goals. His experience includes managing operations in the EU and Asia and overseeing cross-border data compliance and cybersecurity.
Outside of DreamHost, Mr. Ghazarian helps his own book of international clients with corporate, M&A, and IP matters. He recently closed a two-year-long copyright infringement lawsuit against The Weeknd involving the hit song, “Call Out My Name.” On the side, he is an adjunct professor at Southwestern Law School, currently teaching Cybersecurity Law.
Mr. Ghazarian has been honored as a GC Powerlist attorney by Legal 500, a Cybersecurity and Data Privacy Trailblazer by the National Law Journal, a Top 100 Corporate Counsel, and a Digital Age Fighter by the LA Daily Journal.
Elaine Harwell is a Partner and Privacy Officer at, Procopio. Elaine focuses on representing clients in privacy and data security matters, including litigating claims involving privacy issues, helping clients manage emerging risks and conduct privacy risk assessments, and advising on regulatory and compliance issues. She has been involved in numerous trials, as well as arbitration proceedings, related to contract and general business disputes, trade secret matters, complex unfair competition and business practice claims, and professional liability. Elaine has earned the ANSI-accredited Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) and the Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) credentials through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and is the leader of Procopio’s Privacy and Cybersecurity practice and the firm’s Privacy Officer.
