Top 2024 legal updates in estate planning, trust administration, and probate laws will be discussed by Mara Mahana, Jennifer Scharre, and Kristin Yokomoto. Topics will include changes to: the small estate probate procedures for real property and related Judicial Council form, a trustee’s discretionary power to terminate a trust, the rules concerning private fiduciaries, and the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act. The speakers will also discuss the impact of 2024 case law on trust modifications and estate planning malpractice, and more.

Mara M. Mahana. Esq. is a Senior Wealth Strategist and Executive Director at Wells Fargo Bank within the Wealth & Investment Management division. Mara works with high- and ultra-high net worth clients, collaborating with their advisors, to review, develop, and consult on estate and wealth transfer plans. Mara provides education and personalized advice, taking into consideration clients’ unique values, needs and circumstances. She works closely with clients to ensure their goals and objectives are aligned with their financial and wealth decisions. Prior to joining Wells Fargo Bank, Mara was a practicing attorney with 20 years of experience in trust and estate law. Mara is a member of the CLA’s Trusts and Estates Executive Committee (TEXCOM).
Jennifer Scharre, Esq. is a partner at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass. Her practices focuses on sophisticated wealth transfer strategies for high net worth clients, including founders, individuals at startups, and clients with large real estate portfolios. Jennifer is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by the California Board of Legal Specialization. She serves on the Executive Committee of the Trusts and Estates Section of the California Lawyers Association (TEXCOM) and on the Board of Trustee of the Silicon Valley Bar Association.
Kristin Yokomoto, Esq., is a partner at Baker & Hostetler LLP in the Orange County office. She practices in the areas of estate planning for high net worth clients, business succession planning, trust administration, and probate. Kristin focuses on tax and business planning for clients. She is a Legal Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law certified by the State Bar of California. Kristin is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), Executive Committee Member of the CLA Trust and Estate Section (TEXCOM), and Member of the Orange County Bar Association Professionalism & Ethics Committee.
