Towsley Canyon Hike
March 22 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
The Environmental Law Section of the California Lawyers Association invites Section members and friends for a beautiful hike in Towsley Canyon! Towsley Canyon is located in the Santa Susana Mountains in the southern end of the Santa Clarita Valley. We will hike a combination of trails in the Rivendale Park and Open Space, including Taylor Trail and Elder Loop.
When: March 22, 2025, 8:00am until approximately noon (shorter options available).
Where: We will meet in the small parking lot for the Taylor Trailhead (Google Maps; Apple Maps; photo). The lot is on the west side of The Old Road north of Calgrove Blvd. (This is not the large parking lot for Towsley Canyon that you may be familiar with.)
Getting There: Driving directions via Google Maps or Apple Maps
Take the I-5 north through the San Fernando Valley (traveling from the south) or south through the Santa Clarita Valley (traveling from the north) to the Calgrove Blvd. exit, the southern-most exit in the Santa Clarita Valley. Take the Calgrove Blvd. exit, turn in a south-westerly direction to the first (and only) stoplight, which is The Old Road. Turn right (north) on The Old Road. Drive north approximately .5 mile. The parking lot will be on your left. (For those of you familiar with Towsley Canyon, we are not meeting at the main parking lot, which is farther south on The Old Road.)
What to Bring
- Water and snacks. Bring your own; you will not be able to get water or snacks at the trailhead or on the trail. You can find fast food and convenience stores near the intersection of the I-5 and Lyons Ave., which is one exit north of the Calgrove Blvd. exit.
- Hiking poles. Poles are optional. The trails are hilly but not terribly technical. There may be one or two narrow water crossings if we have rain.
- Sun protection. It can be hot and dry in Santa Clarita and the trails are exposed. Dress accordingly (hats, sunglasses) and bring sunscreen.
- Good hiking shoes. Heavy duty hiking boots are not required. Good trail runners are fine.
- Optional checklist items. A daypack with essentials (checklist) is always a good idea. We will not be in a particularly remote area, never more than a mile or so from the I-5.
