Join the CLA Real Property Law Section for this free roundtable seminar which will explain AB 832 which extends and modifies California’s residential eviction moratorium (SB 91), and includes a brief discussion on the status of commercial evictions in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego Counties. Speakers: Rachael Callahan, Lawrence Mudgett, Gilberto Vera, Michael Olinik. Moderator: Ashley Peterson.

Rachael Callahan

Ms. Callahan, a third generation San Diego native, is the founder of San Diego Evictions, an eviction firm dedicated to assisting owners and landlords with their eviction needs. Ms. Callahan graduated from the University of California San Diego, in 2007 with honors and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a Law and Society minor, and continued her San Diego inspired education on an academic scholarship at the University of San Diego School of Law (USD), earning her Juris Doctor, in 2009. Ms. Callahan’s start in the eviction world was at the USD Unlawful Detainer legal clinic, where as a student she received first-hand experience representing tenants.

Lawrence A Mudgett III

Attorney Lawrence A Mudgett III has been practicing landlord tenant, bankruptcy, and real property litigation in San Diego for 14 years. For the last 12 years he has operated as a sole proprietor doing business as Safer Law representing both Landlords and Tenants, Debtors and Creditors, as well as Plaintiffs and Defendants in a wide array of civil real property disputes. Lawrence has personally handled thousands of unlawful detainers from notice to lockout and his experience on both sides of the aisle gives him a unique perspective on the impact of Assembly Bill 3088 and Senate Bill 91 across his diverse clientele.

Gilberto Vera

Gil Vera is a San Diego Native. Gil obtained his undergraduate degree from University of California Berkeley. He then went on to attend and graduate from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. Gil has 6 years of experience representing tenants/defendants in over 1000 unlawful detainers in San Diego and Los Angeles. Currently, Gil is the Senior Attorney of the Housing Team at Legal Aid Society of San Diego.

Michael Olinik

Michael Olinik is the sole proprietor of The Law Office of Michael G. Olinik, a civil law firm in San Diego that also provides freelance motion work for other firms. Mr. Olinik is a graduate of Villanova University School of Law in 2009 and earned his undergraduate degree in Government and in Economics a the College of William and Mary in 2006. Mr. Olinik has been practicing civil litigation since 2009, when he was admitted into the Pennsylvania Bar and was an associate at Reed Smith, LLP. He has been practicing law in California since 2013 after serving as a clerk to the Hon. Magistrate Bernard G. Skomal in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. In his spare time, Mr. Olinik volunteers to umpire little league games where dealing with parents and coaches gives him training in dealing with the pressures and intense situations of litigation.
