2021 has seen the passage of a number of important new employment laws, including the Silenced No More Act, and specific protections for those most affected by the pandemic, including warehouse workers, food delivery workers, garment workers, agricultural workers, pharmacists, and workers with disabilities. This panel will cover the most important new employment laws that should be on your radar.

Phyllis Cheng

Phyllis W. Cheng is a mediator at ADR Services, Inc., and is on the neutral panels for the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, and U.S. District Court, Central District of California. She prepares the Labor & Employment Case Law Alert, a free electronic alert service on new cases for Section members. She is co-editor of California Fair Housing and Public Accommodations (The Rutter Group Civil Litigation Series).

Ramit Mizrahi

Ramit Mizrahi is the founder of Mizrahi Law, APC, a firm which represents employees exclusively. She focuses on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination cases. She takes a special interest in sexual harassment and leave law cases, and enjoys taking cases to trial.

Ramit graduated from Yale Law School. She has a master’s degree in Gender & Social Policy with Merits from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree with Highest Honors from UC-Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Ramit clerked for Judge Richard Paez of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Ramit is active in the employment law community. She is Chair of the California Lawyers Association Labor and Employment Law Section, and Executive Editor of the California Labor & Employment Law Review. She is also Chair of the Pasadena Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. In addition, she serves on the LACBA Labor & Employment Law Section Executive Committee, and is an active CELA member.

Ramit was named a Best Lawyer by U.S. News & World Report and a Top Attorney by Pasadena Magazine. She was also selected as a Super Lawyer, after having been on the Top 100 Super Lawyers Rising Stars and Top 50 Women Rising Stars in Southern California lists for three consecutive years.

Ramit has devoted her career to helping employees. In law school, she worked at the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice within the Disability Rights Section. She was an editor of the Yale Law Journal, which has published two pieces that she wrote about sexual harassment (2004 and 2018), and served as a research assistant for renowned sexual harassment law scholar Vicki Schultz . She then worked at firms devoted to workers’s rights before founding Mizrahi Law in 2013. She is licensed to practice law in California and New York.

In her free time, Ramit likes to hike, paint, and make crafts and treats with her son. Of all of her creations, friends and family are most enthralled with her homemade Nutella, which she is bold enough to assert is even better than the real thing!

Pascal Benyamini

As a trusted adviser, Pascal Benyamini teams up with employers to defend them in litigation matters against wage and hour claims,  wrongful termination, retaliation, discrimination, harassment and unlawful employment practices. Pascal also Pascal trains and counsels employers and management teams on best practices for avoiding litigation and workplace issues — his primary goal.  As a former hockey player, Pascal applies the teamwork and tenacity he learned playing the game to his client relationships and advocacy.
