FAQ
How does the competition work?
Recruit a friend or colleague. Think of someone in your circle who could benefit from joining CLA—new associates, peers at other firms, or law school classmates.
There’s two ways to win:
- Highest Growth by Headcount: The section that recruits the most new members overall.
- Highest Growth by Percentage: The section with the largest percentage increase in membership.
The competition runs from February 1, 2026, to March 31 2026. For the full rules, refer to the Section Competition Guidelines.
What should I say to my colleague?
We have created a recruitment toolkit designed to empower you to share the value of CLA membership with your network, colleagues, and peers here.
Add CLA to your signature line! Choose one of the three graphics below and use your section’s unique link to encourage your colleagues to join every time you send an email.

How does membership count for the competition?
Only paid memberships through the CLA website count. Members joining via the State Bar website are excluded.
Can a single member join multiple sections?
Yes! If a member joins multiple sections, each section gets credit for that membership.
Why are New Lawyers, Solo and Small Firm, and Law Practice Management & Technology Sections not included?
As part of their standard membership benefits, all CLA members automatically receive access to the Solo and Small Firm and Law Practice Management & Technology Sections. Therefore, these Sections will not be included in the competition.
In addition, all CLA members within their first 8 years of practice automatically receive access to the New Lawyer Section. Therefore, this Section will not be included in the competition either.
