Summary:

Under general direction of the Associate Executive Director of Initiatives, DEI, & Bar Relations, the Initiatives Manager exercises discretion and independent judgment and assumes managerial responsibilities to support CLA outreach initiatives and projects to advance the mission of CLA. The Initiatives Manager is also responsible for implementing and managing CLA’s Law School Outreach Program and creating and managing CLA’s Leadership Academy. As a member of the Initiatives, DEI, and Bar Relations Team, the Initiatives Manager, in collaboration with the CEO & Executive Director, CFO, Associate Executive Director of Initiatives, DEI, and Bar Relations, Initiatives and Bar Relations Manager, Sponsorship & Development Manager, Board Manager & Executive Assistant, and other CLA Team Members as needed, works to advance the mission of the California Lawyers Foundation, the charitable arm of CLA, in the areas of access to justice, civics education, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and executing strategies and tactics to build out and implement CLA’s Law School Outreach Program with all law schools in California
  • Works in conjunction with Marketing, Membership, & Technology Team and Section Managers and volunteers to understand membership criteria and CLA opportunities for law students and develop effective communication strategies to enhance law student participation in CLA’s Sections
  • Works with Section Leaders and CLA Team Members to develop and cultivate relationships with law school student organizations, administrators, staff, and faculty to design and implement CLA-hosted programs for law student engagement
  • Responsible for creating and implementing a learning Leadership Academy primarily geared toward new lawyers to help develop leadership skills and qualities in addition to navigating the benefits and opportunities within CLA and the practice of law in California
  • Develops and delivers presentations to law schools throughout California (in-person, virtual, hybrid) that includes discussion of fellowship/scholarship opportunities, highlight membership benefits for law students, and marketing the Leadership Academy
  • Plans and execute on all aspects of events, live/hybrid meetings, conferences, and webinars related to various initiatives
  • Conducts research and analyzes data and information, reports findings and makes appropriate recommendations
  • Researches, analyzes, creates and updates materials and resources to support initiative projects including project plans, toolkits, rosters, spreadsheets, website pages, PowerPoint decks, white papers, reports, brochures, program summaries, meeting summaries and/or other needed resources and materials
  • Creates content to support project needs and ensures that events are marketed on social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Provides thought leadership to various CLA committees and ensures all entities are apprised of interconnected activities, using monthly outreach and direct communications
  • Works closely with Initiatives and Bar Relations Manager and oversees assigned work of the Project Coordinator, which serves in a project-based administrative role to support the Initiatives, DEI, and Bar Relations Team
  • Ensures processing of invoices and other financials are completed appropriately, and interfaces as needed with CLA’s accounting team
  • Oversees acquisition and distribution of materials and resources to support initiatives and events

 Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent
  • Three (3) plus years’ experience in a similar position
  • Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to learn quickly and think independently
  • Possess office and business management savvy
  • Savvy research and analytical skills
  • Project coordination experience
  • Entrepreneurial spirit in developing programs to address organizational needs
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize the specific policies, programs, projects and procedures to which the position is assigned, as well as how each interacts with the general policies, programs, projects and procedures of CLA
  • Understand workflow and project management principles and techniques
  • Keen ability to identify, evaluate and resolve problems independently and exercise good judgment
  • Solid working knowledge of computer information systems, including personal computer applications, spreadsheet programs, word processing, graphics, and network systems as required by the position
  • Obtain and present material in oral and written forms
  • Assemble data and prepare required reports
  • Manage changing priorities and uncertainty
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Work well with all levels of internal management and staff, association volunteers and members, vendors, suppliers and other stakeholders
  • Prepare, recommend, and manage project budgets, including but not limited to monthly and yearly financial analysis of cost centers, payment of invoices, monitoring expenditures and revenue accounts
  • Establish and maintain relationships with outside entities and individuals as directed by executive leadership
  • Coordinate the implementation of new programs and administrative procedures
  • Perform other similar or related duties which are not specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described
