Summary:

The Information Technology (IT) Director is responsible for the strategic design and execution of all aspects of the California Lawyers Association’s (CLA) information technology needs, including development, implementation, and maintenance of CLA’s hardware and software components. The IT Director will oversee CLA’s IT and Web Team and build and update CLA’s computer systems to ensure that it aligns with the Association’s organizational strategic goals. This includes the establishment and execution of a strategic technology roadmap to support the growth of CLA, manage day-to-day IT operations, and ensure information security. The Web Team also executes email marketing and communication and is responsible for web content updates.  Additionally, the Web Team collects and analyzes membership and marketing data and plays a large role in setting up and running virtual and hybrid events.

The IT Director will be charged with collaborating closely with internal teams, including the executive leadership team, CLA member leaders, and other stakeholders to understand their IT requirements, needs, and preferences and installing systems and programs accordingly. The IT Director will also oversee the work of an offsite IT provider to troubleshoot and assist in resolving other daily IT issues that arise.

The IT Director will regularly conduct information technology scans and evaluate the organization’s current systems and programs to identify and mitigate any risks, vulnerabilities, and threats and propose and recommend any new software to help the Association meet its organizational goals. The IT Director will formulate and deploy strategic plans for acquiring and implementing new technology.  The IT Director coordinates with stakeholders to ensure that the CLA websites provide content and functionality that meet the business needs of the organization. Use of a variety of IT systems and web development languages is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in setting organizational IT strategy
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to utilize new technologies to achieve organizational
  • Develop and communicate IT systems usage and security policies to CLA staff
  • Perform cost-benefit analyses of proposed IT implementations
  • Manage CLA’s association management system (AMS) and related integrations
  • Oversee offsite IT provider and their work on onsite servers, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Windows operating system, VoIP phones, and computer hardware
  • Identify, recommend, and prioritize new web features and applications
  • Define website architecture and overall site structure
  • Establish policies and procedures for publishing web content in conjunction with content creators
  • Oversee web development projects, including intranets and extranets
  • Develop, code, install, test, debug, and document web applications
  • Manage web servers and register domains
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with existing web applications and sites
  • Ensure web applications maintain WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards
  • Ensure web applications maintain compliance with GDPR, PCI-DSS and related regulations
  • Ensure security of all websites and related applications
  • Provide analytics and performance metrics for website
  • Collect, transform, and analyze membership and marketing data
  • Create reports and dashboards related to membership data, email marketing, and web traffic
  • Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets
  • Oversee and determine timeframes for major web/IT projects
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve and update software and systems
  • Run regular checks on network and data security
  • Develop and implement IT policy and best practice guides for the organization
  • Design training programs and workshops for staff
  • Maintain relationship with third-party product suppliers and vendors
  • Create and manage newsletter templates and email campaigns
  • Manage and report on allocation of web/IT budget
  • Manage Web Team members in the day-to-day performance of their jobs
  • Lead, hire, and mentor web/IT team members
  • Identify opportunities for team training and skills advancement
  • Perform other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent within the general level of the job and the responsibilities described above 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in one of the following fields: Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • At least seven (7) years’ experience in the information technology profession with increasing responsibilities within that timeframe
  • At least three (3) years of leadership and supervisory experience in the information technology profession
  • In-depth knowledge of web technologies, protocols, and tools
  • Strong understanding of web programming languages including PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Thorough understanding of application development methodologies
  • Comprehensive experience with structuring, developing, and implementing interactive corporate websites
  • Experience creating custom WordPress sites
  • Ability to manage SEO
  • Proven experience in installing, upgrading, and maintaining web servers and associated operating systems
  • Knowledge of databases and SQL
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing business requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging web technologies
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed

Essential Functions:

  • On-call availability
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals
  • Overnight travel may be required within California
