Summary

The Content Curator /Writer is responsible for writing and publishing regular communications and high-quality content for the California Lawyers Association (CLA) including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, social media, press releases, talking points and web content in compliance with CLA’s policies and procedures.  This also includes reviewing and assessing written content produced by the various components of the California Lawyers Association (CLA) and its Foundation including sections, committees, staff, etc.  The Content Curator/Writer may be responsible for conducting legal research and analysis in order to develop compelling and relevant content across various areas of CLA and is responsible for developing ideas, curating content in multiple formats, and repurposing existing content for multiple formats..

The Content Writer/Curator will work to build a greater understanding and support for the CLA mission, vision and goals in the industry, and must be professional, responsive, innovative and dedicated to the mission of CLA.

Skills and Requirements

  • Review and remain current on the content of all written and web communications produced by the CLA
  • Repurpose and write original content for a CLA-wide digital publication
  • Write original content for the website, help tag and highlight information on the website, and identify and remove “stale” content from the website
  • Identify topics and “seed” discussions in CLA’s online communities and monitor same
  • Undertake other writing, copyediting, and/or proofreading needs as requested, including for the C.E.O. and Executive Director
  • Develop, edit and review content for a variety of other projects
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the executive team and others to gain approval and feedback
  • Balance multiple projects with differing and aggressive timelines, deliverables, and expectations
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • D. degree from an ABA accredited law school
  • 3 – 5 years of professional experience
  • Online writing portfolio and/or related published writing samples will be required
  • Demonstrated strong research and writing experience on legal topics
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the Senior Executive Team and volunteer leadership teams
  • Strong business sense, organizational and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to exercise initiative and mature judgment
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Utilize Microsoft Office software, such as Excel, Word, Power Point and Publisher
  • Experience working with digital publication tools/software
  • Regularly perform web audits and provide recommendation for web updates ensuring the content is accurate and easily accessible
  • A determined fact-checker with a keen eye for detail
  • A firm believer in the revision process and an enthusiastic collaborator

Essential Functions

  • Read, write and speak the English language fluently (additional language skills a “plus”)
  • Interact with members, potential members, partners, potential partners, volunteers, or other staff to provide a high level of service
  • Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on computer screen
  • Regular typing
