California Lawyers Association
Praise for Your Executive Director
June 2019
By Heather Rosing, CLA president
and Jim Hill, CLA chair
CLA would like to extend a warm and enthusiastic thanks to our new Executive Director Ona Dosunmu for all of her dedication and accomplishments since she joined us in January.
For the CLA members who may not yet have met Ona, she went to college at Howard University and majored in journalism. She has her master’s degree in sociology and has a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Before moving to Sacramento to join CLA, Ona was the Interim COO and general counsel at Brookings Institution in Washington D.C. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, reading, swimming and spending time with her husband and her twin children – Taiwo and Kehinde.
Since joining CLA, Ona has successfully established our highly qualified executive team, which is dedicated to serving our members and our sections and growing the organization. Led by Ona, this team recently held a retreat where they established clear goals and objectives in accordance with the direction of our board, including studying our membership structure, building the CLA brand, living up to our mission statement, advocating for our profession and providing tangible member benefits. Ona is also working hard every day to ensure full transparency in the organization.
In conjunction with our volunteer CLA leaders and her executive team, Ona is traveling across the state to further develop our relationships with local county and affinity bars, legislators, legal services organizations, our chief justice, the Judicial Council and the judiciary. These critical partnerships will help us ensure that we best serve all California lawyers and that we effectively use our strong voice and resources to do good for the people of our state.
We thank Ona for her continual efforts to create a culture of trust, transparency, positivity and respect at CLA. We look forward to you meeting Ona at a CLA event soon!
