California Lawyers Association
A Summer Deposition Disposition
August 2023
By Sabrina Green
Chair of CLA’s Board of Representatives
One of my favorite qualities of summer is that it’s so effortless to come together. Plans, friends, family—there’s always something special that happens in summer. It’s as if Jenny Han was speaking about California Lawyers Association (CLA) when she said, “Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August.”
Jenny is right—the summer is a magical time. For many of us, personally and professionally, summer represents a celebration of our hard work. Whether we are sending kids off to college or school or building in some well-deserved R&R, we know that summer is a celebration of our commitment to each other.
If you look at CLA’s activities over the last two months, one might say we should always live in the summer! The passion from our members and sections has never been stronger, and like Oyango A. Snell, Esq., CEO and Executive Director, always says, “We are on the move!”
In June, the Board of Representatives met; it was our first in-person gathering since January. There was laughter, serious discussions, and a celebration of our love for our members. President-Elect Betty Williams was unable to join the Board Meeting, and even though she wasn’t physically there, we still found a way to make sure she was present and accounted for.
If you follow the CLA on social media, you’ll know exactly what we mean when we say, “Oh My Gaudi!” We loved watching our International Law Section in action as they celebrated law with the Barcelona Bar Association during the Barcelona CLA Summer Law Conference. Watch a recap of their adventures.
In other section news, events around the state were on fire! The Labor and Employment Law Section held its 39th Annual Meeting. The Antitrust and Unfair Competition Law Section inaugurated its series of Summer Associate Mixers. Environmental Law and Workers Compensation Sections put the final touches on their summer and fall events.
If you missed out on the summer action to date, not to worry. If you find yourself in San Diego on August 16, join Real Property Law Section’s Hot August Nights at the Loma Club.
We have no intention of slowing down as we welcome fall. In fact, our Annual Meeting and Presidents Gala is shaping up to be the talk of the state again! If you are on the fence about attending, check out these top five reasons.
As you can see, our summer disposition is unstoppable. And it’s all thanks to you!
Enjoy the rest of the summer—I look forward to seeing you at Annual Meeting, if not sooner!
