Agenda
Protecting Those Who Serve: Consumer Protection Efforts on Behalf of the Military Community
Members of the armed forces and their families make immense sacrifices to defend our country. Yet, like all consumers, they are potential targets for unlawful, unfair, abusive, and deceptive trade practices and financial scams. In fact, certain scams are more likely to target the military community and can undermine military readiness. JAG legal assistance attorneys serve the military community – including our own California National Guard – by providing legal advice, service and support to active and reserve component service members and their families on a host of issues, including legal protections and benefits under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, Military Lending Act, Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and the often broader parallel protections available under the California Military and Veterans Code. JAG legal assistance attorneys also serve a key role in revering potential violations of these laws to law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the CFPB, FTC, USDOJ, and the State Attorneys General.
Please join the California Lawyers Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee for a discussion about consumer finance and related issues impacting military members and their families.
