Insurance Law Committee

The Insurance Law Committee serves as a forum to educate BLS members, members of the State Bar of California and the public in general on current issues and recent developments in insurance law.  It communicates with the California State Legislature and other groups concerning proposed legislation and regulations affecting insurance.  Insurance Law Standing Committee members practice in all areas of insurance law from regulatory and transactional issues to coverage and litigation.  It holds regular meetings that typically include case law, regulatory and legislative updates,  as well as occasional guest speakers on topic of insurance law.

The Insurance Law Committee recently co-hosted a webinar with the BLS Internet and Privacy Law Committee on Data Privacy in California Today: An Insurance Perspective on the California Consumer Privacy Act.  The webinar addressed issues the new law and proposed regulations raise for insurers, including the treatment of insurance producers, the application of the law to claims files and the interaction between the CCPA and existing state and federal privacy laws.
