Foreign Delegates, many of whom were visiting the United States for the first time, to the CLA Conference from Japan, Vietnam, France (Marseille), Mexico and Malaysia, joined ILS at the President’s breakfast to memorialize the importance of the ILS outreach to its Foreign Bar Friends, and the CLA’s embrace of ILS efforts. Each Foreign Bar Delegation was introduced by Heather Rosing, CLA President, to all Conference attendees and guests from the judiciary and ABA at the festive breakfast.
Delegates from Malaysia, Mexico, France, and Japan joined the CLA International Law Section Executive Committee on a beautiful day in San Diego for a Hornblower Cruise in San Diego Bay during September CLA Annual Meeting.
At our inaugural CLA Conference in San Diego, ILS sponsored a CLE program on “Leonardo Da Vinci and Cross Border Sales of Personal Property in a Cybercrime Era,” immediately after the CLA President’s breakfast, where ILS speakers Agustin Ceballos and Alexandra Darraby, and ILS Co-Chair Michael Newman, pictured, joined ILS Foreign Delegates for coffee and pastries before Ceballos and Darraby appeared on the highly attended panel.
Other CLE programs presented by ILS members at the conference included “Coming to the USA: Tax & Visa Planning” (Al Golbert), “The Nuts and Bolts of International Arbitration” (Jeff Daar), and “From Aerospace to Art – A-Z: How to Plan for Successful International Careers in the Art & Global Trade.” (Margrette Francisco).

ILS Co-Chair Alexandra Darraby, Former ILS Chair Jeffrey Daar, and new ILS “Friend” Delegation Leader, Marie-Adelaide Boiron of Marseille, France will be presenting a webinar, Eliminating Workplace Bias and Avoiding Cultural Mishaps in Cross-Border Business, on January 23, 2019 from Noon to 1 p.m. This webinar addresses elimination of bias with the focus on helping lawyers recognize and fight against their own unconscious bias and internalized views to avoid cultural mishaps when dealing with persons and parties from other countries and cultures. Ms. Boiron will compare and contrast with EU policies and practices. The cost for this webinar is $55 and fulfills one CLE credit hour and is a great opportunity to get the hard-to-get elimination of bias requirement before the 2019 deadline.
