The International Law Section seeks to develop relationships with law societies and bar associations from other countries and localities, to foster rule of law, enhance mutual benefits to attorney- members, and to create understanding and respect for legal systems and their importance to the public.
ILS entered into Friendship Agreements in 2018 under the banner of California Lawyer’s Association.
In June 2018 at the offices of the Marseille Bar in Marseille, France, Alexandra Darraby and Michael Newman, Co Chairs of the International Law Section, joined with the Batonnier of the Avocats du Barreau de Marseille, Madame Genevieve Maillet, to execute a Friendship Agreement between the two associations.
On September 14, 2018, at the inaugural CLA Conference in San Diego, Alexandra Darraby and Michael Newman, Co Chairs of the International Law Section, joined with lawyers from ANADE, the National Bar Association of Business Attorneys in Mexico, the Osaka Bar Association, the Malaysia Bar Association, and the Viet Nam Lawyer’s Association to enter into Friendship Agreements with those associations.
On September 14, 2018, the International Law Section entered into a Friendship Agreement with ANADE, the National Bar Association of Business Attorneys of Mexico.
On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, the International Law Section signed a Friendship Agreement with the Bar Association of Barcelona (Ilustre Colegio de Abogados). The Friendship Agreement was signed by Jeffery Daar, Chair of the International Law Section, and Pedro L. Yúfera, President of the Bar Association of Barcelona.
Alexandra Darraby and Michael Newman, the Co-Chairs of the International Law Section, signed a Friendship Agreement with the Osaka Bar Association at the inaugural CLA Conference in San Diego.
On April 30, 2007, at the offices of the State Bar in San Francisco, the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association and the International Law Section executed a Friendship Agreement. Mr. Kenji Hashidate, the president of the International Section of the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association, and the International Law Section then-Chair, Donal Hanley, executed the Friendship Agreement on behalf of their respective organizations.
The delegation from the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association included Messrs. Hiroaki Jin, Minoru Fukuyoshi, Yoshihiro Takatori and Kazunori Suzuki. On behalf of the International Law Section, San San Lee, Steve DeLateur, Carol Brittain, Daniel Zimmerman and Peter Gelles attended.
The Friendship Agreement contemplates sharing of resources and collaboration between the two groups for the benefit of their respective members. The Officers and the Executive Committee of the Section are working at introducing specific programs and initiatives to implement further educational and other opportunities for members of the Section.
