If you aspire to serve California’s judiciary, listen and learn from Judicial Appointments Secretary Luis Céspedes, who will discuss the California Judicial Mentor Program.  He will be joined by CJMP Chair Judge Lucy Armendariz and CJMP Chair Emeritus Judge Paul Bacigalupo, Ret. as they explain how the mentor program works to demystify the judicial application process and how a judicial mentor can guide you to achieve your professional goals.

1.25 Technology in the Practice of Law Credit

This presentation will cover the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence, along with the latest advancements in AI technologies and their applications; the current legal landscape surrounding AI, including integration; and potential of AI in judicial processes, as well as the practical implications and challenges of AI in legal practices, including the ethical considerations surrounding AI’s use in the legal profession. It will highlight trends, implications, and ethical frameworks tailored to a diverse audience. Presenters will include a technology expert; a judge with AI expertise in court processes; an attorney leading the CLA’s task force on AI; and an ethics specialist.

Discussion led by Finance and Operations Director, Rich Mize and volunteers, directed towards Section Treasurers and any volunteers interested in discussing, learning, and providing feedback on CLA’s Section and Community finances, and discussing ideas for non-dues revenue for CLA and Sections.

Section Marketing

Discussion led by CLA Staff, to hear from volunteers as to their unique marketing goals and needs, as well as share how the CLA staff currently handles marketing events and best practices for Sections to supplement CLA’s efforts.

New Lawyers Outreach and Recruitment

Discussion led by Vice President Sabrina Green focusing on how all sections can benefit from liaising with the New Lawyers Section, best practices of existing Sections’ NLS Liaisons relationships, how to best support new lawyers, and how to best recruit new lawyers including collaborating on law school outreach initiatives.

Programming and Cross-Section Collaboration

Discussion led by section volunteers to discuss ideas for programming, with an emphasis on cross-section and CLA-wide collaboration.

Join women leaders to discuss current challenges in the practice of law, potential solutions, work-life balance recommendations, and other topics that may evolve.

Discussions concerning what the volunteers would like to see as part of the CLA-Wide Programming in 2025 and beyond.

4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. | A Conversation with Affinity Bar Leaders Regarding The Future of DEI In the Aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Decision in the Affirmative Action Cases

Please join us for a panel discussion with the leaders of several of the largest affinity bar associations in California regarding the future of Diversity Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”) following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Affirmative Action cases.  The all-star panel, which will be moderated by CLA Vice Chair & CLA Racial Justice Committee Co-Chair, Terrance J. Evans, will provide insights and strategies for navigating DEI in a changing legal landscape.  Attendees who are members of the California Bar will earn 1.25 hours of Implicit Bias/Bias-Reducing Strategies MCLE credit.  We hope to see you there!
