This program includes lively discussion and real world analysis between prominent family law bench officers and certified family law specialists as they address the paramount custody issues of today. Topics will include factors influencing a court’s decision when fashioning parenting plans, the effective use of custody evaluations, how the family law court system is integrating the changing views, attitudes, and law towards substance use with families today, approaches and strategies related to move away requests, practical approaches to child support related issues, and the nuances and hard facts of dealing with domestic violence issues when children are involved.

This panel takes an in-depth look at the different factors that influence a court’s decision in fashioning an appropriate parenting plan, as well as providing useful commentary and materials on child preference, age appropriate considerations, and effective advocacy techniques.

Consideration of when to engage in a custody evaluation with specific emphasis on the effectiveness and use of custody evaluations, potential procedural and evidentiary issues that may arise at trial will be addressed. Discussion will also include the tools available to both bench and bar when faced with relocation cases including specifics when advocating for or against a relocation request.

Attitudes and laws continue to change with respect to domestic violence and substance abuse, but has the landscape of family law changed along with it? Enjoy a lively discussion and learn practical pointers on how to navigate and defend Family Code section 3044 findings, the new marijuana laws, and substance abuse issues including dependency on prescription medications and how they relate to custody issues in today’s family law courts.

An in-depth look at how to approach child support related issues beyond mere number crunching. Learn how to strategically prepare your pleadings as well as practical approaches regarding child support add-ons, the bonus table, imputation of income, and seek work orders.
